Palliative Care is the active compassionate care of the sick when the goals for cure and prolongation of life are no longer appropriate.
Palliative Care maintains hope, provides needed support, improves quality of remaining life and extends into the bereavement period.
Palliative Care Volunteers:
- Listen and comfort both the patient and family members at home or in the hospital
- Help with practical matters; for example, errands, short periods of respite and occasional meal preparation.
- Recognize emotional and spiritual needs of the client and family members and provide support or make referrals.
Where are palliative care services provided?
- Patients can be cared for in their home by their families and when needed, with the assistance of the Palliative care team.
- It is hoped that patients will be able to remain in their home for as long as possible.
- When hospitalized, palliative care services are still provided by the palliative care volunteers.

If you or a family member feel you require Palliative Care services, contact your family doctor, or Rimbey Hospital, 403-843-2271 or the Rimbey Community Health Centre 403-843-2288.
